The primary purpose of the Prayer Shawl is to weave together prayer, love, and support to individuals who are in discomfort due to illness or grief. These shawls are knitted by women who meet and pray during the knitting of the shawl. As one witness to the healing power of the Prayer Shawl explained, “I have seen the shawl given to someone who was gravely ill and the power of prayer which had been knitted through the shawl made a turning point for this person to return to health. The experience was miraculous.”
The group at MHCC is composed mainly of 5-6 women, but many other groups around the nation participate in this powerful witness. In 1998, Janet Bristow and Victoria Galo, two graduates of the 1997 Women's Leadership Institute at The Hartford Seminary in Hartford, Connecticut gave birth to the Prayer Shawl Ministry. The Prayer Shawl has been even given as a wedding gift to knit the spiritual foundation for a newly married couple.
The group meets Wednesday night at 6:30 pm, but for more information contact Lynda McCord through the church office.
